In fact, if the recent success of the movie Avatar is anything to go by, I would have to say that adults enjoy it as much as kids do. What are 3D glasses and how do they work? Let us take a look.
How do they work?
3d polarized glasses are designed to mimic the binocular effect of your eyes. Since your eyes are a few inches apart, they see the same image from different angles. Your brain correlates these images and helps you gauge things like the size of the object and the distance. 3d glasses work on the same principle of binocular vision. When two images are projected simultaneously on the screen, these glasses let one image to enter each eye. In other words, these glasses make your eyes see the same scene from different angles. This creates a three dimensional effect and you are able to see the objects on the screen just like you would see objects in real life.
The evolution of polarized 3 d video and 3dpolarized glasses
Earlier, red/blue or red/cyan glasses were very popular. Three dimensional movies in the past worked in a slightly different manner. Two images in two different colors, usually red and blue, were displayed on the screen. The red filter allowed the blue colored image to enter the eye and the blue filter allowed the red colored image to enter the eye. This created a 3d effect. These glasses, however, could not be used to watch color movies. This gave birth to the concept of polarized glasses.
Glasses with polarized lenses are quite different from the ones with color filters. Three dimensional movies today are projected on the screen using synchronized projectors. These projectors project two images on to the screen. Each of these images has a distinct polarization. The glasses differentiate the images based on their polarization and allow one image to enter each eye. This creates a three dimensional effect. Since this type of 3d polarized glasses do not have color filters, viewers can use them to watch color movies as well.
